Tips & Tricks
Now, I know this recipe is super simple however if you want to take your rice crispy treats to the next level there are a few things I recommend.
First, Brown your butter! Don’t just melt the butter. I think that browning your butter adds an entirely new element to the traditional rice crispy treats. In order to brown your butter just keep in on the stove over medium heat until it turns from golden to more of a light brown color.
Be careful not to burn the butter. You are going for browned, not burned. You will notice tiny little brown specs begin to appear. Have no fear, this is normal and means you are doing it right.
Second, I recommend using miniature marshmallows or you can even take your kitchen scissors and cutting the big marshmallow into smaller sizes. This is simply a preference, however. The smaller the marshmallows the quicker they melt.
Lastly, once the rice crispy treats have been made press them into a pan. Softly and with
a cold metal spoon or damp hands. These treats are sticky so to avoid making a mess a little cool water, shaken off, your hands will work wonder in keeping you from turning into a big gooey ball. I like to use a cold metal spoon too. Be sure not to press too firmly. They will harden a bit as they cool and if you compress them too much they lose some of the chewy goodness.
